PURPOSE: To provide a sulfide-generation suppressing agent easily soluble in alkaline aqueous solution to enable the addition to sewage water, building pit waste water, etc., in the form of aqueous solution and, accordingly, having high workability and dispersibility and capable of effectively suppressing the generation of sulfide. ;CONSTITUTION: This agent for suppressing the generation of sulfide in an aqueous system containing sulfate-reducing microorganism and sulfate ion contains at least one kind of compound selected from 1,4-dihydro-9,10- dihydroxyanthracene which may have substituents or its salt.
