PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the communication time of both face transmission when one face is an original including information and the other face is empty, and to realize both face recording intended by a transmission side at a reception side even when the order of transmission of pages or front and back original pictures are inserted or extracted. SOLUTION: When transmitting and receiving page information including picture data on either a front face or a back face, a transmitter transmits the page information by adding to the page information to be transmitted the attribute information of at least a page counter (PC) indicating the actual number of pages of an original, information (SIDE) indicating whether the face is a front or back face, and virtual page number information (VPC) synchronizing with the order of transmission of the page information, and a receiver records the picture of the received page information on both faces of a recording sheet on the basis of the transmitted attribute information of the page counter (PC) indicating the actual number of pages of the original and the information (SIDE) indicating whether the face is a front or back face.
