Fluoride ion sustained release preformed glass ionomer filler and dental composition containing the same

A preformed glass ionomer filler which comprises a powdery reaction product between a polyalkenoic acid and a fluoride glass and can sustainedly release fluoride ions, a process for producing the filler, and a dental composition containing the filler. The filler can release fluoride ions for a long period without undergoing degradation in the presence of water. The composition is particularly useful for preventing dental caries and so forth.
