PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject mixture having excellent thickening property, foam-increasing property and foaming stability as well as low melting point and good handling property, excellent in low-temperature stability, etc., in blending and useful for thickening agent, emulsifier, forming stabilizer, cosmetic, detergent, etc. ;SOLUTION: This polyoxypropylene fatty acid isopropanolamide mixture comprises a mixture of two or more kinds of compounds expressed by formula I [R is a 7-21C straight-chain or branched unsaturated hydrocarbon; PO is a 3C oxyalkylene; (m) is an integer of 0 or ≥1] in which average value of (m) of the compound expressed by formula I is a positive number of 0.3-20, e.g. polyoxypropylene lauric acid isopropanolamide mixture. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a fatty acid alkylester of formula II (R¹ is a 1-3C alkyl) with isopropanolamine of formula III in the presence of a base catalyst to prepare a reaction mixture containing an aliphatic isopropanolamide of formula IV and directly carrying out addition reaction of the compound of formula IV with propylene oxide in an amount of 0.3-20 times by mol based on 1mol of the compound of formula IV.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
