PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charge transporting method and a charge transporting element in which a liquid crystal compound is used and superior charge transportability can be realized without photoexcitation.;SOLUTION: The charge transporting method is obtained characterizing that a voltage is applied on a liquid crystalline material having a smectic phase as a liquid crystalline phase containing at least one kind selected from a liquid crystalline compound having a long linear conjugated structural part or from a liquid crystalline compound derived from that having the long linear conjugated structural part, in a liquid crystalline state of the smectic phase, or that the voltage is applied on a liquid crystalline material having a smectic phase as a liquid crystalline phase containing at least one kind selected from a liquid crystalline compound having a long linear conjugated structural part, or from a liquid crystalline compound having the long linear conjugated structural part derived from that, in a solid state formed by phase transfer from the smectic phase.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
