PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform a maintenance work for an elevator having an upper car and a lower car independent each other within a hoistway. ;SOLUTION: The lower car 1A and the upper car 1B are provided with maintenance operation switches 2A and 2B, respectively. When the maintenance operation switch 2A of the lower car 1A is operated, for instance, the lower car 1A becomes a suspended state and the upper car 1B runs to an uppermost floor. When the upper car 1B reaches the uppermost floor, the suspended state of the lower car 1A is released to allow the lower car 1A to perform a maintenance operation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
