PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device with secured frequency doubling rate by using a rare earth metal oxycalcium borate crystal with a specified cutting edge angle.;SOLUTION: A rare earth metal oxycalcium borate ((ReCa4O(BO3)3 abbreviated as ReCOB (Re=Gd, Y...)) crystal, machined by specifying respective cutting edge directions toward the incident laser beam with 1,340 nm, 1,064 nm, 1,053 nm and 940 nm wavelengths (λω) is used. For example, in the case of YCOB and λω=1,340 nm, the cutting edge angles of the crystal are specified as θ1=(67.0±5.0)°, ϕ1=(27.5±5.0)° or θ2=(67.0±5.0)°, ϕ2=(152.5±5.0)°. Also in the case of GdCOB and λω=1,064 nm, the cutting edge angles of the crystal are specified as θ1=(62.0±5.0)°, ϕ1=(47.8±5.0)° or θ2=(67.0±5.0)°, ϕ2=(132.6±5.0)°.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
