PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an erosion control dam which can be used on a semipermanent basis without causing environmental destruction in a downstream area, and can be constantly used for intaking water. SOLUTION: There is provided an erosion control dam for preventing excessive downflow of earth and sand when a river is swollen. The dam has slits 2 which can allow water, earth and sand in an amount in a predetermined range to flow downward before the water level reaches the top of a water passing section of the dam. A slanting surface 6 formed at each slit section 2 has a bar screen 4 at its lower portion, for separating falling objects such as stones, rocks, and flowing water and allowing intake of water from surface water. Water is taken out via the bar screens 4, and further taken out from an upstream reservoir, as well.
