Treatment of patients infected by disease causing organisms or biological warfare agents using hyperthermia

The invention provides a method of treating a patient infected with any contaminant and/or with any biological/chemical warfare agent wherein the contaminant is other than a human hepatitis C virus, an HIV virus, or the human herpes virus comprising raising the core temperature of the patient and then returning the core temperature of the patient to normal at least one time. Preferably, the patient is an animal infected with an equine herpes virus, a contaminant that has caused an equine encephalitis infection, or a West Nile Virus.
