The device for passing documents through a counter comprises a first drawer (12) able to slide through a security separation between a closing position, where the drawer has an upwards open cavity (29) on the client side, and an opening position where the drawer has the upwards open cavity on the clerk's side. The cavity comprises a back wall (27) able to be passed through by a bullet discharged from a firearm, and an upwards open trapping enclosure (7,13) which closes the first drawer and comprises walls (8-11,14-18) capable of resisting the bullet's impact. The trapping enclosure is closed opposite the clerk's side also in the drawer's opening position.
