The test bench comprises a frame on which a device for carrying a section of track is mounted. There is a set of means for simulating predetermined variable loads applied to a vehicle axle running on the rail track and a means for simulating a predetermined unsuspended mass equivalent to that which must be fixed to the axle. The frame carries a set of equi-distant springs (62) each having a low resonance frequency. A set of anti-vibration supports (61) fixed on the springs serve to carry a section of the track on which a carriage (63) runs. A load cell (65) comprises a compressible element and there are means (67) for applying a variable load to the cell.
