Maintenance of passive optical networks by reflectometry arborescent type analysis in the time domain requires a few modifications compared with the use of OTDR in a point-to-point link. These changes are either circumvention of passive couplers or the use of a tunable OTDR. The solution described in this document allows the tree network analysis by simply inserting a switchable element réflectiffi to identify, quantify and locate accurately and clearly the defects of various branches of networks. Reflective the element resulting from the combination of passive components (multiplexer, connector, coupler, attenuator) products in large quantities, the cost of the solution is reduced. We solution therefore uses a switchable optical device for maintenance of passive optical networks by arboreal reflectometric analysis in the time domain.
