The present invention relates to an aqueous based explosive which has dynamite-like detonation properties. It comprises an emulsion explosive formed by mixing an emulsion phase with molten particles. The emulsion phase consists of a continuous phase of organic liquid fuel, a discontinuous phase of inorganic oxidizing solution and an emulsifier. The fused particles consist of a mixture of sodium perchlorate, water and diethylene glycol. The molten particles may be added to the emulsion phase before the particles are completely cured and therefore before they reach final sensitivity.
