Process and apparatus for the preparation of metacru00eclico acid of high purity.A process is provided for the production of high yield of glacial methacrylic acid of high purity ("hpmaa") that is substantially pure.Specifically, 99% pure or more with a water content of 0.05% or less.This process comprises providing an improved flow and to purify the crude MAA stream crude methacrylic acid in a series of successive distillation steps.
