In the present invention, there are disclosed substituted phenacyl esters of benzoic acid and 2-halobenzoic acids of the general formula IV intended for use as antituberculotics or for prophylaxis of tuberculosis wherein the symbol X in the above formula represents hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and one to three of the Re2, Re3, Re4, Re5 and Re6 substituents are halogen or a methyl group, whereby the remaining substituents are hydrogen atoms.
