A process for reusing the plates of a slide gate for a metallurgical container is disclosed. The slide gate is provided with an upper indentation (14) and a lower indentation (18) for receiving a set of two refractory plates (12, 16), each of these plates resting in an indentation by a face that becomes its support face and cooperates with the other plate by a face that becomes its characterized sliding face. A set of refractory plates, used in the slide gate (2) comprises a new plate associated with a plate that had been already in use, whereby when said plates (12, 16) are changed the new refractory plate is put either in the lower or upper indentation (18, 14) intended for putting therein the new plate, whereby the shape of this indentation remains the same at each plate change and the plate being already in use is mounted in the other indentation, which represents a recycling indentation (14, 18).
