The present discloses a procedure for the concentration of solutions, essentially consisting in evaporating the water contained in them, when in contact, within an absorption column, with two ascendant gaseous currents; one current of gaseous ammoniac, and a second current of hot gases containing SO3, coming from the catalytic converter of a sulphuric acid plant and which reacts with part of the water and ammoniac to form ammonium sulfate. The reactions produced during the contact between gaseous currents with the solution to be concentrated, are exothermal and the generated heat, for the reactions and also for the gases cooling down when in contact with the solution, allow water evaporation contained in the solution. For each ton of SO3 fed into the system, 3.5 tons of water is evaporated.
