The method and equipment are for determining the position of an autonomous agricultural machine (1) processing a crop on a plot of ground (2) and define the transition between processed and unprocessed crops. The machine is a harvester and incorporates a harvesting unit (3) comprising a harvesting beam (4) with disks (5) rotatable around a shaft (11) on which harvesting blades (6) are fitted. The machine is supported on and moved forward by wheels (7). It has a first position determining device (8) which has an antenna (9) which works in conjunction with a determining system (10) incorporating at least one satellite. A transition detector (12) determines the transition (17,18) between processed and unprocessed areas of the plot.
