The device is for feeding a web to a printer (2) and has at least one first rotatable web carrier (3,4) in order to support at least a part of the web (1). The printer during use causes at least the first web carrier to execute an unwinding rotation by means of a tractive force on the web. At least the first web carrier is provided with a detector which detects the unwinding rotation of the respective web carrier. The detector is an electricity generator, which generates particularly an electrical voltage or current, when the web carrier rotates to unwind when in use.
