The glass or plastic container (1), particularly a bottle, is for containing perfume, alcoholic drink or a food item and incorporates an identification code (9) located on the side wall (3) of the bottle. The identification code, under normal light conditions, is invisible to the human eye, but can be revealed by radiation with ultraviolet light. The code is formed by ink burnt into the inside of the bottle. The code is primarily introduced into the interior of the bottle by a carrier in the form of a sticker. The burning-in process involves a technique selected from ultrasound application, laser effect and heat treatment. After this process, the carrier is removed.
