Tianeptine or its enantiomers (optionally in the form of an additional salt with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid or base, particularly a sodium salt) are used as modulators of AMPA/kainite type glutamate receptors. This will be used in the treatment of demyelinating pathologies, encephalopathies, chronic fatigue syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis, post viral fatigue syndrome, fatigue and depression following a bacterial or viral infection, and the dementia syndrome of AIDS.
