Novel Stra6 polypeptides, nucleic acids, antibodies, compositions and methods of treatments for inhibiting tumor cell growth

An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprises DNA having at least 80% sequence identity to (a) a DNA molecule encoding a Stra6 polypeptide comprising the amino acid residues 1 to 667 of the sequence of Figure 2 (SEQ ID NO:2) or (b) a DNA molecule encoding a Stra6 polypeptide having amino acid residues from 1 to 658 of Figure 7 (SEQ ID NO:5) or (c) the complement of the DNA molecule of (a) or (b) wherein the isolated nucleic acid is other than DNA encoding murine Stra6 polypeptide an comprises at least 100 amino acids. Preferably the DNA sequence is that of Figure 1 (SEQ IDNO:1), Figure 6 (SEQ ID NO:4), the molecule deposited with the ATCC under the deposit numbers ATCC PTA 1181 or PTA 1405. Polypeptides, host cells, vectors and antibodies are described. An anti-Stra6 antibody can be used in diagnosing a tumor. An antibody or an antisense oligonucleotide that hybridizes to a nucleic acid that encodes the Stra6 polypeptide can be used in the preparation of a medicament for inhibiting the growth of tumor cells.
