METHOD FOR RADIONUCLIDE DIAGNOSIS OF INFLAMMATORY PROCESSES OF FOOT BONES IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

The method for the radionuclide diagnosis of the inflammatory processes of the foot bones in the patients with diabetes mellitus consists in the intravenous administration of the osteotropic radiopharmaceutical followed by the scintigraphy of the foot bones. According to the invention methylene diphosphonate labeled with 99m technetium is used with this aim in view. The scintigrams are recorded employing scintillation gamma chamber connected withcomputer. Upon recording the areas of the interest are discerned and their areas as well the activities in the lesion and the symmetrical area are estimated. The asymmetry in the accumulation of radiopharmaceutical is assessed as the percentage value. The increase in the asymmetry of the accumulation from 150 to 200 per cent is indicative of the chronic inflammation in the foot bones while the percentage of the asymmetry exceeding 200 points to the acute inflammation of the foot bones in the patients with diabetes mellitus.
