METHOD FOR PREDICTING MYOCARDITIS AND POLYNEUROPATHY IN DIPHTHERIA PATIENTS

The method for predicting myocarditis and polyneuropathy in the diphtheria patients is based on the analysis of the cell immunity parameters such as ratio of T-helpers and T-suppressors (Th : Ts), the metabolic activity of the neutrophils in nitroblue tetrasolium reduction assay (NBT assay), and the level of the circulating immune complexes (CIC). The increase in Th : Ts ratio above 2.10 +-0.40, the increase in CIC level above 2.07 +- 0.21 g/l with accompanying reduction of NBT assay values below 12.40 +- 0.95 % within the first week of the disease is highly indicative as the predictive factor for further myocarditis and polyneuropathy in the diphtheria patients.
