The proposed method for determining the position of electrodes in the bath of an ore-smelting furnace implies measuring physical and electrical parameters that characterize the operation mode of the furnace. The method consists in inserting, during 2 ... 4 operation cycles before discharging the melt from the furnace, the tested electrode into the charge in the furnace until the preset position of the electrode is achieved that is specified for that charge, varying temperature in the furnace by adjusting current of the adjacent electrodes, and determining the distance from the bottom of the furnace to the level at which the temperature is maximal. The position of the electrode, which is defined as the distance from the bottom of the furnace to the lover end surface of the electrode, is equal to the distance from the bottom of the furnace to the level corresponding to the maximal temperature increased by 100 ... 300 mm.
