System for Indexing Textual and Non-Textual Files 5 The invention provides a system and a method for the indexing of computer files or records. It comprises a data storage device capable of storing a plurality of computer files or records wherein each computer file or record is identifiable by one or more attributes. A first collection of information is10 maintained which includes a series of attributes of the computer files or records by which said computer files or records are identifiable. A second collection of information is also maintained including entries for each computer file or record that is being indexed. In particular, the system comprises linking means for linking the entries in the second collection of15 information with specific attributes in the first collection of information to identify the presence or absence of an attribute in each computer file or record being indexed.
