The applicator (1) comprises a rail (8) for supplying seals (2) from a magazine (9) and a swing arm (6) with a grab for transferring the seals from the rail to a metal band supply ring (10). The metal band passes through the ring and this ring also surrounds the object (4) being wrapped with the metal band. A folding/clamping mechanism is used to fold one end of the band after the object has been wrapped, and then clamp the seal firmly against this folded band.
