The hygienic commode incorporates a seat (1) supported by a sub-structure (2). The seat comprises two plate-type parts (13,13') which are individually articulatedly connected with the sub-structure. Each plate part works in conjunction with a lock mechanism (14). They are pivotable between a locked, upwardly folded starting position in which they are supportive and a downwardly folded position in which access is available of one whole half of the posterior of a user.
