A method to prevent illicit copying of video information that is protected against copying by a watermark with a standard size and position, compatible with a standard scale, in which the image may have been exposed to changes in the scale of the image with the intention of circumventing the watermark, and comprising: a) selecting a range of scales corresponding to the image scales that are used to attempt to bypass the watermark; b) include or insert a watermark that has a first scale selected from the range of scales, in the video information for a first period of time; c) during or after the first period of time, insert the watermark that has another scale selected from the range of scales, into the video information for a second period of time; d) repeat step (c) using a different scale of the range of scales, until a number N of scales have been inserted; and (e) detect the watermark that has the scale corresponding to the image scale used to attempt to bypass the watermark.
