A point-of-sale computer system, comprising: (a) at least one point-of-sale checkpoint having at least one cash register (14) and at least one peripheral device (18); (b) a store communication bus (12) connected to said at least one cash register; (c) a store controller (10) connected to said store communication bus, to control and supply data to said at least one cash register; (d) a supplementary processor (16) to execute additional tasks to the tasks executed by said store controller; (e) at least one port hub (10) associated with a respective point of sale checkpoint of said at least one point of sale checkpoint, said at least one port hub that has multiple input ports / output, an input / output port of said multiple input / output ports connected to said at least one peripheral device of said respective point of sale checkpoint; and (f) a port hub communication network (36) connected to said supplementary processor and to said at least one port hub; (g) wherein said supplementary processor communicates with said at least one peripheral device of said at least one point of sale checkpoint through said communication network of port hubs and a respective port hub of said at minus a port hub.
