The retention straps (1,2,12,14,16,18) for discardable absorbent articles are applicable to napkins and involve a pair of straps joined to the napkin by each of the longitudinal selvedges of the part of the rear strap of the napkin and hooked to various anchoring zones in the front strap part of the napkin. The retention straps have a downwardly stepped design, with an upper step joined to the longitudinal selvedge of the napkin by the part of the rear strap of it and a lower step which is joined to the anchoring zones to maintain the napkin in position on the user, ensuring that the rear part of the napkin is longer than its frontal part.
