This invention relates to a device and method for converting low continuousflow to a high intermittent and pulsating flowarid is especially adapted for operating sprinklers, showerheads etc. at lowflow. Fluid is introduced at a controlled low flow, suchas by the use of a dripper (5, 24) in a supply line (7), into a container (1,22) having expandable chamber (2). The outflow of li-quid from the chamber (2) is restricted until pressure created by theintroduction of the liquid is sufficient to force the valve toopen, and in response to a resistance to the flow, the fluid intermittentlyejects at a higher flow. This is achieved by utilizing apreset pressure responsive valve (8, 28), designed for quick response, tocreate a water hammer effect. The invention describespulsating valves and other devices operating in response to deformationcreated in elastic membranes in response to pressurechanges.
