A network includes one or more clients, a plurality ofservers and an intermediate device called a "depot".Information resources are replicated among the servers.The client accesses a server through the depot. The depottransparently identifies a new session and selects oneserver for the session. The depot may be provided betweenan Internet Client and an ATM network server. An edge nodemay be provided between the depot and the ATM server. Aproxy may be provided between the depot and a WWW server.
