An accelerometer has a main body in combination with one or more Bragg gratingsensors respectively arranged along one or moreaxes. The main body has a mass that responds to an acceleration in one or moreaxes. The compression or stretching of a Bragg gratingsensor causes a wavelength shift in the optical signal that containsinformation about the acceleration and that is sensed by a detector.
