A bearing assembly for radially supporting a drive shaft of a pump such as avertical sump and process pump. The bearing assembly has a bearing housing, abearing havinginner and outer surfaces, a bearing housing for holding the bearing; sealsdisposed in the housingfor retaining a lubricant pumped into a space formed between the inner surfaceof the bearingand the drive shaft, and at least one water jacket disposed about a portion ofthe outer surface ofthe bearing. The water jacket circulates cooling liquid that contacts theouter surface of thebearing and carries away heat conducted through the bearing due to rotation ofthe drive shaftduring operation of the pump.
