It is intended to provide heptyl 8-[1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-imidazolylethoxy]octanoate and compounds somewhat similar thereto. These compounds specifically inhibit the biosynthesis of jasmonic acid in plants and thus exert effects of inducing male sterility, inhibiting pollen tube elongation, keeping cut flowers fresh, extending flowering season, inhibiting pollen formation, promoting germination, controlling weeds, preventing pollen scattering and so on. Among all, the effects of inhibiting pollen formation and preventing pollen scattering are particularly noteworthy. This is because use of these effects would make it possible to prevent scattering of pollens of plants causative of pollen fever such as cedar to thereby suppress the onset of pollen fever.
