The invention concerns an infrared sensor for gas metering appliances, provided with a shockproof protective housing (2) incorporating a metering chamber (1), wherein an infrared source (3) in the form of a lamp and an infrared sensor (4) are arranged with intrinsically safe power supply breakdown resistance. A highly permeable anti-dust and anti-damp filter (6) is integrated in the gas inlet and outlet (7, 8). The connecting branches (9, 10) of the gas ducts (22) are protected in pumping mode by a protective shockproof block (19). Said metering chamber may also consist of a separate inner housing provided with an exchanger orifice sealed with a highly permeable anti-dust and anti-damp filter. Moreover, said sensor may be equipped with pressure-resistant anti-dust and anti-damp filters on an explosion-proof and shockproof protective housing.
