Catalyst comprises: alumina doped with a rare earth selected from yttrium, cerium, lanthanum, praseodymium, neodymium and samarium; manganese; an alkali metal selected from potassium, rubidium and cesium; and platinum. The alkali metal/manganese atomic ratio is 1.5-5. Independent claims are also included for: (1) gas treatment to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by using the above catalyst as an NOx trap; and (2) catalytic system for gas treatment comprising a catalyst as above.
