PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high molecular flocculation agent which extracts valuable metals such as nickel from oxidized ores containing them by a sulfuric acid leaching process, is used when leached residual dross is flocculated and removed, and can efficiently recover the valuable metals, and to provide a recovery method for valuable metals using the flocculation agent. SOLUTION: This flocculation agent consists of a water soluble high molecular weight copolymer having a composition containing; i) a 2.5 to 40 mol% copolymerizable water soluble monomer having a sulfonic group or the salts thereof; and ii) =50 mol% (metha)crylic amide or the derivative thereof. The viscosity of the aqueous solution of salt containing the high molecular weight copolymer of 0.2%, and also containing NaCl of 4% is 5 to 40 mPa.s, and when used, the agent is added to slurry leached with sulfuric acid in a 0.1 to 0.2% aqueous solution. This copolymer can consist of a composition further containing at least one kind selected from the salt of (metha)crylic acid, alkylalcohol ester, N-alkyl substituted acrylamide, vinylacetamide or the like.
