A method of controlling a molecular orientation direction minutely, comprising the steps of specifically exciting, by using an infrared ray, the vibration energy level of an intramolecular chemical bonding of a molecular material to locally and isotropically heat the molecule and hence cause a thermal non-equilibrium state locally, and then selectively re-orientating it to a specific direction out of in-phase and out-of-plane directions with respect to a plane perpendicular to an incident optical axis by depending on the wavelength, incidence direction and polarization direction of an illuminating light; and a device therefor.
