A diagnosis method is provided to identify a genetic polymorphism that leads to a greater predisposition to the onset of gastric carcinoma, according to which in fact is sought the presence of a possible polymorphism at the nucleotide -160 of the promoter of the E-caderine gene. The polymorphism involves the nucleotidic substitution of C (cytosine) with A (adenine) and it is sought through amplification obtained by the polymerase chain reaction, a method which allows the automatic amplification of the genic fragment to be sought. The polymerase chain technique uses two pairs of oligonucleotides A and B made up of particular base sequences of the E-caderine gene and supporting the sequence of interest in two separate reactions.
