A thread or cable calibration spindle has a spindle cylinder whose upper part is formed by a protective calibration cone with a top-mounted combined thread-guide and eye. The combined thread-guide and eye (1.42) esp. has a lateral slit which merges into the access aperture (1.43) on the upper side (1.41) of the cone. Also claimed is the use of a self-threading thread eye with a lateral slit.
