The invention relates to a pharmaceutical chemotherapeutic composition for the treatment of viral, fungal and bacterial infections. The inventive composition contains at least one active principle and at least one excipient other than water. The invention is characterised in that the active principle comprises 0.0003-10 % p/p of at least one pharmaceutically-acceptable quaternary ammonium salt and 0.0003-0.2 % p/p of at least one pharmaceutically-acceptable chelating agent. The invention is further characterised in that the active principle is selected from quaternary ammonium salts and chelating agents the combined action of which causes cellular lysis through a rupture in the chains of structural polysaccharides and glycoproteins specifically present in the cellular membranes of prokaryotes, fungi and membrane viruses. The inventive formulation can be used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria, fungi and membrane viruses.
