The invention concerns a method for controlling retention of an organic compound (i) or of a plurality of organic compounds (i) inside a liquid or solid phase, characterized in that it comprises a step which consists in modifying the oxidation-reduction potential of said solid or liquid phase by contacting said solid or liquid phase with an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent or a neutral agent, the oxidation-reduction potential of said solid or liquid phase determining the degree of retention of the organic compound (i) or of each of the organic compounds (i) inside said solid or liquid phase.
