The invention relates to a device and method for filtering an electrically-conductive liquid containing electrically-charged colloidal and/or suspended particles to be filtered. The inventive device comprises a chamber (1), which is equipped with a liquid supply means (2) and a liquid release means (3), and a filtering agent (5) which is disposed in the chamber between the liquid supply means (2) and the liquid release means (3) and which is an electrical conductor. Said device also comprises at least one electrode (6) which is in contact with the filtering agent (5), each electrode being connected to the same pole of an electric potential source (8). According to the invention, an electrical field is created from each electrode (6), which electrically charges the filtering agent (5) in order to attract the aforementioned particles electrically and to trap same in the filtering agent (5).
