The invention concerns a colouring composition promoting natural pigmentation, the method for obtaining it and use thereof for colouring the skin and/or keratinous fibres. The composition comprises, in a physiologically acceptable medium, at least an enzyme having pro-pigmentation activity and an efficient amount of a catalytic system comprising a first constituent selected among the salts and oxides of Mn(II) and/or Zn(II) and their mixtures and a second constituent selected among alkaline hydrogen carbonates, alkaline-earth hydrogen carbonates and their mixtures, the proportions of the first and second constituents corresponding to formulae: [Mn(II)]/[HCO3] ≤ 1 with [Mn(II) 0; [Zn(II)]/[HCO3] ≤ 1 with [Zn(II)] 0; [Mn(II) + Zn(II)]/[HCO3] ≤ 1 with [Mn(II) + Zn(II)] 0. The invention is useful for colouring the skin and/or keratinous fibres.
