A test system (10) for assessing the performance of an analyzer (100) for a gas or an anesthetic agent includes a source (12) of a calibration gas mixture, a valve (18) for controlling flow of gas from the source (12), a low-pressure tube (20) having a sample tube (21) in communication therewith, and a connecting analyzer (100). Test system (10) may also include a valve (28) for diverting ambient air into sample tube (22) instead of the calibration gas mixture. Test system (10) may include one or more of a barometer (29), a flow meter (26), an analyzer for gas or anesthetic agent processor (50), a flow restriction system (30) and a relatively high pressure source (44). Methods for testing analyzer (100) are also disclosed.
