Disclosed is a device for CNC grinding camshafts, crankshafts and the like on a mass scale. The device comprises a control unit (2), an integrated charging device (3) and a first and second basic modular grinding unit (4,5) which are combined to form a complex. Each basic grinding unit (4, 5) comprises at least one grinding disk (6) whose axis of rotation is disposed in such a way that feed motion during grinding occurs in a substantially right-angled manner in relation to the longitudinal axis (8) of the workpiece. The charging device (3) is embodied in such a way that it slips over the basic grinding units (4,5) and contemporaneously loads them with workpieces (1) or unloads said workpieces therefrom. The grinding disks (6) and the control device (2) are embodied in such a way that the grinding process is divided up into a first grinding section in the first basic grinding unit (4) and into a second grinding section in the second basic grinding unit (5) such that the workpiece (1) is ground in the first grinding unit before it is finished in the second basic grinding unit (5) once it has been transferred thereto by the charging device (3). The grinding sections grind for essentially the same amount of time. The two grinding sections operate in a substantially simultaneous manner.
