Proteins that contain the amino acid sequence motif X1X1X2X3X1, where X1=R or K and X2 and X3=any amino acid have been found to translocate and can therefore be used in the manufacture of compositions for therapeutic applications. The proteins may also be used as translocation factors to deliver proteins or nucleic acids into a cell.
