A system (10) for measuring the diameter of the limbus of an eye (12) comprising: An image recorder (14) at a known location apart from the eye for recording an image of the illuminated limbus; A first illumination source (16) at a first known location relative to the image recorder for illuminating the limbus; A second illumination source (16¿) at a second known location relative to the image recorder for illuminating the limbus; A switching device (58) connected to the first and second light sources that activates sequentially the first and second light sources so that the image recorder can record at least an illuminated image for each of the light sources first and second; and a computing device (18) connected to the image recorder for determining the diameter of the limbus from the illuminated limbus recorded, wherein the computing device combines at least one recorded image illuminated by the first illumination source and at least one image recorded illuminated by second illumination source for determining the diameter of the limbus.
